Cat-a-Tonic

the song is "Classical Rag" by Eubie Blake

Eubie

Eubie the Newbie

I belong to several dog rescue e-mail lists including one for the rescue group I foster for. A post came through to the list asking if anyone could help a 6-month old deaf male kitten. I called the owner; she had recently moved into a place of her own that didn't allow pets, and "Sylvester" was staying with her parents until she could rehome him. She'd been trying to rehome him for 6 weeks, but every time a potential adopter heard "he's deaf" they lost interest. (This makes absolutely no sense to me - honestly, what's the big deal?) The parents were getting anxious to get rid of him, and had threatened to take him to the shelter. So, on June 12, 2001, "Sylvester" joined the Zoo.

One look at his sweet face and I knew his name wasn't Sylvester. I wasn't sure yet what it was, so I jokingly started calling him Eubie the Newbie. By the time I needed a name for the vet records, he and I had decided to keep the name.

Eubie is the most relaxed, self-confident cat I've ever met in my life. He's a big, fluffy, affectionate cuddle-bug. His integration into the Zoo was complete within 48 hours of his arrival - there wasn't a hiss, swat, or even a dirty look from any of the other Zoo residents. Eubie and Blizzard have struck up a close friendship; he follows Blizzard all over the house, and will walk up to her, lie down in front of her, flip over onto his back, and pat her jaw until she grooms him. He's got a lively curiousity, and thoroughly investigates anything that interests him. He loves to play in the sink when the water's running, pawing at the water, putting his whole head in the stream to get a drink.
