Mesh-Mesh

Sweet Pixie-Face

Mesh-Mesh is an Abyssinian mix kitten (I think!) who came to live with us the end of June 1998, one of a litter of 6 feral littermates trapped and taken in to my vet, along with 3 from another litter. I was there one evening and Doc asked me if I was ready to learn how to tame feral kittens, since these kittens were unadoptable until they stopped hissing and spitting at humans. Sucker that I am, I said sure, and we proceeded to work with the nine babies. Something about Mesh-Mesh tugged at my heart (could it have been that little waif face?) and I couldn't sleep that night, thinking about her. So, the next day I went back and got her. On my way home, I ran into an Egyptian friend who said "Ooooh, what a sweet little mesh-mesh!" I asked what that was, and he told me it was a sweet, apricot-like fruit that grows in the middle east. Bingo! Mesh-Mesh had a name!

It took about 6 weeks before she really began to relax with me. She adjusted to Peek-a-Boo almost immediately (they're only 4 weeks apart in age), but it took a little longer for her to trust me. Now, she's a big cuddle baby, and comes to me for mushing every day. She also insists on sleeping at the foot of my bed and, consequently, gets kicked fairly often, but just climbs back on the bed and goes back to sleep. She's a wonderful help with the fosters - once they check out healthy and I put them in my bedroom behind a baby-gate, my adult cats can jump the gate into the bedroom to check out the temporary residents. Mesh-Mesh is quite conciliatory and reassuring to these poor little strangers, and will come running to comfort one if it cries.

Mesh-Mesh and Bubba

She's going to grow into a wonderful cat. She's one of the most beautiful kittens I've ever seen with her little heart-shaped face and big, slanted Aby eyes. I'm glad I was unable to resist her charm!
