Cat-a-Tonic

the song is "A Maiden Fair to See" from HMS Pinafore

Twinkletoes

Twinkletoes is Miss Lucy Maud's cousin - their mothers were sisters. Twinkletoes' two brothers and sister were born on a Saturday, but Twink wasn't born until Sunday. That speaks volumes about her personality. She's sweet and laid-back, and never in a hurry. Another tortie, but a bit more colorful and a big bit larger than her cousin. Twinkletoes has a big orange patch on the top of her head, and the last three inches of her tail are orange, too. She's got a really soft coat - it's almost like petting a rabbit - and she's a good solid cat. I call her my Chubby Bubbe.

Twinkletoes came to live with us in July 1997 at the age of 16 weeks. Her previous mommy had been trying to get the kittens into the local no-kill shelters for 8 weeks with no success, and was about to take them to Animal Control. Since they only keep animals for 5 days or so before they are euthanized, I couldn't let this happen. I found a home for her big, orange brother and her little black brother, but there were still 2 kittens left. I made a deal with my friend - if I took Twinkletoes, she'd keep the other one. So, welcome number 5!

She was very frightened at first - I had to flip my recliner over and get her out of the springs the first night I had her. After that, she started to hang out in my spare room, where she could see into my bedroom (a hot-spot of cat activity), the bathroom, and down the hall to the kitchen. She kept a very careful eye on all of us, and retreated back under the bed in there if anyone came close. If I went out to the kitchen where she couldn't see, she'd start screeching like an old fish-wife until I came back into her line of sight. What a funny, shrewish little voice! She didn't want me near her, but she didn't want me out of sight, either. She would only come out at night after everyone was asleep, jump up on the bed, and curl up in my armpit. As soon as I awoke and started moving, off she'd go.

A Relaxing Sunday Morning

She has grown into a delightful cat who is, if that's possible, even more laid-back than as a kitten. She loves to come up on the bed for cuddles; her purr is inaudible unless you've got your ear on her chest, but she sure loves to be scratched - she grunts the whole time I'm petting her. Sweet, solid, and cheerful, the other cats choose to curl up with her when they want a little peace and quiet. She's a good little Punkin' Head.
